You are no longer you but a faceless name in the world of social media.
If you don’t agree with me, then look around and take a moment to think.
Everyone you know has got more than one social media account where they post more than once.
In that sea of content, you too are there somewhere. And because you want to belong, you do what everyone else is doing.
So how do you be yourself, your true authentic self?
What is your authentic self?
Understanding Authenticity
Authenticity is when you’re true to yourself, your ideas, views, personality, your core beliefs.
You’re honest both to yourself and to others.
You can be authentic, or true, to yourself when you become aware of yourself and accept your strengths and shortcomings et al.
The main reason the conflict arises is because of the pressures from the external sources. Conflict arises when there is a clash between what you truly are and what is expected of you.
Societal norms, peer pressure, and social media create illusions, and you’re hypnotised into believing them to be the truth, the real world.
Identifying Your True Self
So, how do you go back to being your authentic self?
It comes from acceptance of who you are, embracing your vulnerability and not shying away from revealing your true self.
And this comes from developing confidence within yourself. Society will always show your weaknesses and drawbacks. But you know what you’re capable of.
Break the control others have on you. Stop looking for external validations to measure your worth.
Embracing Authenticity
If you’re working to improve yourself then do it for yourself. You owe that to yourself.
Identify your core values, passions, strengths and aspirations. Go on a path of self-discovery.
Start with practicing mindfulness. Act on your core beliefs and values without justifying them to others. Reflect.
Journaling Journey
And finally, start journaling.
No one’s interested in what you truly think or feel. Journaling provide you the outlet to express yourself without restrictions. Putting your thoughts on paper allows you to think of ways to act on them.
It’s a powerful way to overcome the fears of judgement or rejection. It helps you to build courage within yourself and overcome those insecurities.
Don’t be a part of the crowd. Develop the courage to accept who you are because it is liberating and empowering. You no longer have to pretend to be someone else.
